locking carbon where it belongs

locking carbon where it belongs

we remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by accelerating earth’s natural carbon dioxide regulating mechanism - weathering.

why remove carbon permanently?

To keep on a 1.5°C pathway, current emission must drop by 50% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. This is only possible if we reach our carbon removal targets every decade, hereon.

what is enhanced rock weathering?

for millions of years, CO₂ has combined with rain to form dilute acid - when this falls on mountains and rocks, the CO₂ interacts with the rocks, mineralises and is safely stored as carbonates. we speed this process up so that, CO₂ can be locked away swiftly and at scale.

why not any other method?

unlike avoidance or other removal methods, rock weathering ensures that CO2 is permanently locked away for 10,000+ years. also, it’s the most scalable method out there since it can remove up-to 4 Gt of CO2 per year, i.e 40% of global targets.

We source & transport the ideal-fit hari mati to our farm partners by rail & road. Our farm partners then spread the hari-mati by hand, as per our deployment guidelines, without using additional machinery.

Since we operate in a labor-intensive industry and geography, it currently takes us just 1 week to source & deploy 400 tons of basalt, post site finalization. We expect this to further improve as and when we expand.

We are focusing on the tea industry of India until 2030 given that average size of a tea plantation is 400 acres and with each planter owning ~2-3 tea estates, this has helped us scale very fast.

driven by geochemistry

soil analysis

we calculate the difference between before deployment and after deployment soil samples to quantify carbon removal while tracking soil health and fertility.
Taking note of the differences between baseline and weathered samples allow us to precisely estimate co₂ removal numbers.

porewater analysis

we also use pore-waters to identify leaching trends of hari-mati post deployment. We even monitor pH, electrical conductivity, alkalinity, inorganic carbon, temperature and more between baseline and weathered samples that allow us to precisely estimate CO2 removal numbers.

geochemical modelling

We have built a world-class geochemical model that shows us how quickly our rock weathers and how much CO2 we can expect to be locked away over time.
This model uses inputs like silicate rock type, climate, soil and atmospheric conditions. It also incorporates the latest real-world, peer-reviewed published data.
